According to Mantan Web, the original story of the movie, "Kara no Kyoukai" is "the novel written by Kinoko Nasu. The story is about Shiki Ryougi, who was asleep for 2 years, woke up, and, got special eyes that can see the death of all kinds of things. She is implicated in mysterious happenings of the black arts and ghosts. The first chapter of the movie was played at Teatre Shinjyuku from December 1, 2007 (played only for 4 weeks). While playing the movie, the theater was filled to capacity: the movie was played the total of 70 times and 19,137 people came to see the movie. The highest number of people came to the theater in the history."
The limited version of DVD "Kara no Kyoukai #1 –Fukan Fukei-," according to the product information, is a set of the DVD, a soundtrack CD, a Box illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi, a small ver. of its pamphlet, a pinup, and an original booklet. Seasons-of-change-san commented: "the original booklet writes a lot about 'Kara no Kyoukai.' I didn't expect I could enjoy it that much."
