There should not be any street live or gathering of people in order to take pictures on a vehicle-free street in Akihabara, but it has become normal to see the scenes that cameramen surround cosplayers nowadays in Akihabara. Since police started walking their beat, it has been about 3 years, but as Akibatic-Shigansha-san has written few times, these days, police relax restrictions on a vehicle-free street.

Since police started walking their beat, it has been about 3 years: when police started walking around (in 2005), police said "don't wear something like that because it's too loud" for a lady who wore clothes of white color. On top of that, police said " just to wear something like that is wrong" in GW (Golden Week = a holiday from the end of April to the beginning of May in Japan).

However, I guess since this year (2008), as Akibatic-Shigansha-san has written few times, these days, police relax restrictions on a vehicle-free street: police do not bother cameramen who surround cosplayers on the side of the street (depending on the number of people).

Nevertheless, easing the restriction looks like subjectively done or done depending of feeling of the police. So some police let people stop doing things one by one while some stop people from doing street live first. If police was there when a lady who called herself "a sexy idol" showed her butt on the street, I guess police would stop her.
